Karachi commissioner forms committee for long-term plan on dangerous buildings

Panel headed by local government minister to submit recommendations within 15 days

To address the issue of hazardous and dilapidated buildings in Karachi city, the Karachi Commissioner has constituted a high-level committee for long-term planning.

The commissioner’s office has also issued a formal notification regarding the formation of the committee.

According to details, the committee will formulate a comprehensive plan, design a framework and a strategic roadmap to resolve the issue of unsafe buildings in Karachi, permanently.

The committee will be chaired by the Sindh Minister for Local Government and will include seven members: Mayor of Karachi, Commissioner Karachi, Secretary Local Government, Director General of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), and representatives from the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), and Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP).

The committee will submit its recommendations within 15 days. Upon the recommendations and proposals, adequate steps and measures will be taken to safeguard the lives and property of citizens across Karachi.
