Widespread showers, landslides expected across Pakistan
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported partly cloudy and humid conditions in Karachi, with a chance of light rain or drizzle during the night, potentially bringing slight relief from the persistent heat.
As of Sunday afternoon, the temperature in Karachi stood at 30°C, though it felt closer to 35°C due to humidity. The PMD forecasts that temperatures will range between 28°C and 35°C over the next 24 hours.
According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), the city’s air quality remains satisfactory, with PM2.5 levels recorded at 63, posing no significant health risk to the general public.
Nationwide forecast and alerts
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected across upper regions, while light rain may occur in some plain areas during the night.
In Peshawar, hot and humid conditions are likely during the day, with Bannu recording the highest temperature at 40°C yesterday.
The PMD has advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary sun exposure. In case of rain, citizens are urged to remain in touch with local authorities for updates on drainage and traffic conditions.
In the federal capital Islamabad and surrounding areas, thunderstorms with strong winds and rain are likely in the evening or at night.
Similar conditions have been forecast for Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, and Gujranwala.
Heavy rainfall is expected in northeastern Punjab and the Pothohar region, raising concerns about potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Faisalabad.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are anticipated in the evening. Parts of Balochistan, including Barkhan, Zhob, Musakhel, and Sibi, are also expected to experience strong winds and rain.
In Sindh, isolated rainfall is likely in areas including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Larkana.
Precautionary advisory
The PMD has warned that gusty winds and heavy rain in certain areas could damage weak structures and poorly maintained buildings.
It advised citizens to exercise caution, stay away from open spaces and electric poles, and take necessary safety measures during inclement weather.
