Flood control rooms set up in AJK
In response to the ongoing torrential rains and the threat of flooding in various regions of Azad Jammu Kashmir, official sources report that district and tehsil-level flood emergency warning centers and control rooms have been established in all 10 districts of AJK.
These measures aim to ensure timely responses to any potential emergencies, especially in low-lying areas during the monsoon season.
The sources told APP here Saturday that the district-level emergency flood warning centers were established under the supervision of the deputy commissioners, who also stand as district disaster management authorities, in all ten districts of AJK.
Fully equipped with the required staff, these centers will function round the clock to bring about immediate necessary safety steps in case of emergency in any part of the concerned district, the sources added.
The District Disaster Management Authority works under the command of the AJK State Disaster Management Authority. The warning centers cum control rooms will function round the clock to monitor and assess impending flood hazards besides getting alerts to receive early warnings from the higher authorities monitoring the flood situation in Pakistan for immediate onward transmission to the population dwelling in the low-lying areas, including those living close to the Mangla Lake as well as the seasonal nullahs and the rivers passing through the district.
The Disaster Management Authority of AJK sources told this news agency here yesterday that the district-level emergency centers could be contacted through the official telephone numbers at the DC offices throughout AJK as and when required for any assistance.
Similarly, the Mirpur tehsil-level emergency cell could be approached through telephones at the assistant commissioner’s office at all sub-divisional headquarters, where the tehsil-level emergency center could be contacted through telephone if needed round the clock, he declared.
People across AJK may contact the concerned emergency centers of their concerned district to inquire about the forecast of the impending flood, as well as in case of any emergent situation following the impending flood ravages during the monsoon rains, to deal with any untoward situation immediately, the sources added.
