KP Energy Department audit uncovers over Rs3 billion in financial irregularities
Major financial discrepancies exceeding Rs3 billion have been exposed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Department, according to the Auditor General of Pakistan’s 2023–24 report.
According to the report, Rs207 million remain unpaid by PESCO for electricity provided by the Machai Hydropower Project.
The findings further disclosed that over the past three years, the provincial government has not received billions of rupees for hydropower supplied by the Malakand Hydropower Project to the national grid.
The report noted that nearly Rs2.8 billion in payments from the national grid are still outstanding.
The Auditor General has instructed the provincial government to engage with federal authorities to expedite the recovery of these dues.
