The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall and dust storms across various parts of Pakistan over the next 12 hours. The authority has also cautioned of an increased risk of glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the northern regions due to rising temperatures and expected rain.

According to the alert, residents near rivers in Hunza, Shigar, and Chitral have been advised to remain vigilant. The rising temperatures combined with rainfall in glacial zones could trigger hazardous outbursts in the coming hours.

The NDMA further warned of rain and strong winds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and parts of Punjab, including Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Okara, Sahiwal, Multan, and Bahawalnagar.

Urban flooding remains a risk in major cities, while Balochistan is also expected to receive rainfall in districts such as Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Barkhan, Ziarat, and Dera Bugti. The downpours could lead to landslides and disruptions to road traffic, the alert warned.

In light of the forecast, the NDMA has instructed all relevant departments to take pre-emptive measures to tackle any emergencies.

Monsoon rains continue across Punjab

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that monsoon rains across Punjab are expected to continue until July 13, bringing widespread relief from intense heat.

In Lahore, heavy rains lashed several areas, including Abbott Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Shimla Pahari, Ferozepur Road, Kalma Chowk, Canal Road, Mall Road, Anarkali, Jail Road, Gulshan-e-Ravi, and Islam Pura.
