Sindh govt evacuates 9 dangerous buildings in Lyari

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Thursday that the provincial government has evacuated nine unsafe and dilapidated buildings in Karachi’s Lyari area, while demolition work is currently underway on one of the structures.

Speaking to the media, Memon said that affected families will be compensated with three months’ rent to help them arrange temporary accommodation.

He also revealed that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to chair a high-level meeting today, where a detailed briefing will be given on the issue of deteriorating buildings across the province.

The minister further stated that strict action will be taken against officers of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) found involved in facilitating illegal construction. The newly appointed Director General of SBCA has directed all officers to declare their assets within 15 days.
