Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level committee meeting on Tuesday to review the national sugar stock situation and determine the country’s import needs.

Following a detailed assessment, the committee approved the import of up to 500,000 metric tons of sugar to ensure a steady supply and maintain price stability across the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar reaffirmed the government’s resolve to protect consumer interests and prevent market volatility by taking timely measures.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Food, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary of the Ministry of Food, senior officials from the Ministry of Industries and Production, as well as key industry stakeholders.
