Section 144 imposed, pillion riding banned on Ashura in Punjab
The Punjab Police have launched a comprehensive security operation to ensure peace during Ashura, with extensive arrangements in place across Lahore and the rest of the province.
On 10th Muharram, Section 144 has been imposed, and a ban on pillion riding is in effect.
Mobile phone services have been suspended along the route of the central procession, and the use of private drones for footage has also been strictly prohibited.
According to police officials, more than 147,000 officers and personnel have been deployed across Punjab for Ashura security.
In Lahore alone, over 10,000 police officials are on duty for the security of processions and majalis.
On Ashura day, over 600 majalis and around 117 processions were being held across the city, including the central Zuljinah procession, which began from Nisar Haveli and will conclude at Karbala Gamay Shah.
Over 62,000 volunteers were assisting with security duties, while female police officers have been deployed to ensure the safety of women mourners.
The Safe Cities Authority, Central Police Office, and district control rooms are actively monitoring the situation via CCTV and digital surveillance systems.
For traffic management, more than 400 inspectors and 2,200 traffic personnel have been deployed, with real-time updates being provided via the “Raasta” mobile application to help commuters avoid congested areas.
In a first, the Punjab Police have also activated its Cyber Crime Wing to monitor and act against the spread of hateful content on social media.
Dozens of FIRs have been registered, and over 100 individuals have been arrested for violating the law.
Security officials have appealed to the people from all sects to promote religious harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect during this sacred time.
