Islamabad issues traffic plan for 9th Muharram
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have announced a special traffic plan to ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience during the central 9th Muharram procession, which will start and end at the main Imambargah in Sector G-6/2.
A spokesperson told APP on Saturday that several roads will be temporarily closed to general traffic as the procession moves through its designated route, prioritizing public safety and security.
According to the plan:
-
Fazl-e-Haq Road, from Polyclinic to Kulsoom Plaza, will remain closed. Commuters are advised to use Jinnah Avenue, from Kulsoom Plaza to China Chowk, as an alternative.
-
Seventh Avenue, from Daman-e-Koh Chowk to Chand Tara Chowk (including both loops of Blue Area), will be closed in both directions. Alternatives include Jinnah Avenue, Suharwardy Road, Faisal Avenue, and Margalla Road.
-
Saddar Road, between Iqbal Hall and Melody Chowk, will also be closed. Commuters can instead use Aabpara and Suharwardy Road.
-
Municipal Road, from Lal Masjid to Shohada Chowk and GPO Chowk, will not be accessible. Shaheed Millat Road will serve as a diversion route.
-
Luqman Hakeem Road, from Polyclinic to Iqbal Hall, will be shut during the procession. Jinnah Avenue will again serve as an alternate route.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain Syed Zeeshan Haider urged the public to avoid illegal parking near the procession route and only use designated parking areas.
He added that traffic police will be stationed along the route to assist and guide the public, and he appealed for public cooperation to ensure a safe and orderly procession.
