The Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Green Line service will be suspended on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram due to security concerns, a spokesperson confirmed on Friday.

In addition, seven out of ten routes of the Peoples Bus Service will remain closed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, while five routes will be partially affected on the 8th, the spokesperson added.

To facilitate commuters during these days, the Karachi Traffic Police has released a comprehensive traffic diversion plan.

According to the advisory, MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower due to security arrangements.

Alternative routes have been provided for the public. Commuters coming from Nazimabad are advised to travel via Lasbela Chowk through the Garden area to reach Nishtar Park.

Those coming from Liaquatabad should take a right turn at Teen Hatti and proceed via Martin Road.

Travellers heading from Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road beneath the Jail Flyover, then move toward Society Light Signal via Shahrah-e-Quaideen, or take the Jail Flyover to Teen Hatti and continue via Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road.

Meanwhile, the federal government has declared July 5 and 6 (9th and 10th Muharram) as public holidays in observance of Youm-e-Ashura, as per a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

Muharram, one of the four sacred months in Islam, holds special religious significance. Its 10th day, Ashura, commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions at the Battle of Karbala.
