The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored 74 reserved seats in the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies, in line with the Supreme Court’s June 27, 2025, verdict, significantly altering the composition of the legislatures.

In line with the Supreme Court’s decision, the Election Commission restored reserved seats in all four provincial assemblies, including the National Assembly.

According to a notification issued by the ECP, the distribution of the reinstated seats is as follows: PML-N (43 seats), PPP (14 seats) JUI-F (12 seats), while the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), PML-Q, ANP, MQM-P, and PTI-Parliamentarians (PTI-P) have been allotted one seat each.

In addition, out of the 19 restored seats in the National Assembly, the PML-N got 13 seats, while the PPP got 4 and the JUI-F 2 seats.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, out of 25 seats restored, the JUI-F got 10 seats, PML-N 7, PPP 6, while the PTI-P and ANP got one seat each.

In the Punjab Assembly, 27 seats have been restored out of which PML-N got 23, PPP 2 and IPP and PML-Q allotted one each.

In the Sindh Assembly, three seats have been restored. The PPP allotted two seats while the MQM-P got one.

Following this development, previous notifications issued on July 24 and 29, 2024, which had declared the return of PTI-backed candidates on reserved seats, have been withdrawn.

The ECP clarified that this action was taken to comply with the Supreme Court’s majority decision on review petitions regarding reserved seats.

The court had set aside its July 12 decision and upheld the Peshawar High Court’s ruling, which denied reserved seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council.

As a result, PTI-supported candidates who had earlier been notified on reserved seats in the National Assembly, Punjab, Sindh, and KP assemblies have now been de-notified, and the new allotments have taken legal effect.
