ECP expected to finalise allocation of reserved seats today
The process of restoring and determining reserved seats is expected to be completed today. In this regard, an important meeting of the Election Commission will be held under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner. Members of the Election Commission and its legal team are expected to attend the session.
According to sources, the meeting will include a detailed review of the recent Supreme Court verdict regarding reserved seats. A strategy for implementing the court’s decision will also be formulated.
Sources further revealed that 22 reserved seats in the National Assembly will be redistributed among other political parties.
Following this reallocation:
- The number of seats held by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will increase from 111 to 126.
- The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will see its seat count rise from 70 to 74.
- Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) will go from 8 to 11 seats.
On June 27, Supreme Court of Pakistan’s constitutional bench had nullified the July 12 ruling to allocate reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
