Sunni Ittehad Council seeks issuance of court order bearing signatures of all bench members

The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has requested the Supreme Court to issue an Order of the Court bearing the signatures of all 12 judges who heard the reserved seats review case. However, the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office has reportedly refused to accept the petition.

Senior lawyer Hamid Khan filed the plea on behalf of the SIC, arguing that the Supreme Court’s order dated May 6 had stated that dissenting opinions would be included in the final verdict.

According to the petition, the signatures of Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Aqeel Abbasi were missing from the short order issued on June 27.

The SIC maintained that this matter pertains to fundamental rights and public interest.

The SIC further contended that a verdict carrying the signatures of all 12 judges would carry greater legal weight.

The party has called for the updated Order of the Court, including the signatures of Justice Malik and Justice Abbasi, to be published on the Supreme Court’s official website.

Sources indicate that the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office refused to accept the petition, advising the petitioner to apply for a certified copy.

The office added that once the court order is officially received, it will be provided as per procedure.

In a related development, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also written to the Supreme Court Registrar, urging the issuance of an Order of the Court bearing the signature of all 12 judges involved in the case.

The letter, submitted through senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja, referenced the short order dated June 27.

The PTI noted that the document currently carries only 10 signatures, despite the fact that Justice Salahuddin Panhwar had recused himself earlier, making the signatures of the remaining 12 judges necessary.

PTI highlighted that Justice Jamal Mandokhail issued a separate opinion, while Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Hasan Azhar Rizvi also authored individual notes.

The party has requested certified copies of all individual judicial opinions to be provided.
