Torrential rains, floods claim 40 lives in Pakistan
Heavy rains and flash floods have caused significant loss of life across Pakistan, with the National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities confirming that at least 40 people have died and 63 others have been injured in weather-related incidents in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Punjab, 21 people, including 11 children and 3 women, lost their lives, with most fatalities occurring when roofs, mud houses, and weak structures collapsed under persistent downpours.
Additionally, lightning strikes in Khanewal and Okara killed two people, while two children in Mandi Bahauddin died after suffering electric shocks.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also suffered extensive damage, where 19 people were killed, including 5 women and 8 children. Heavy rains and strong winds demolished six houses completely and partially damaged at least 50 others.
The Met Office has forecast more rain in the coming days and issued alerts warning of possible flooding and landslides.
Rescue teams, district administrations, and relief agencies are continuing emergency operations to assist affected communities.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution amid the risk of further severe weather.
