The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert cautioning the public about heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding through July 5.

According to the NDMA, torrential downpours may trigger flash floods and landslides in Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and Kumrat Valley.

All four provinces are expected to experience rain accompanied by strong winds, while Karachi, Hyderabad, and Thatta are particularly at risk of urban flooding.

The Met Office reported that most regions would see rain today, along with thunderstorms and dust storms. Showers are also forecast for Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The NDMA has instructed all concerned departments to take precautionary measures to deal with any possible emergencies.

Lahore: Motorcyclist killed as signboard collapses

In Lahore, a tragic incident occurred in the Shera Kot area where heavy rain and fierce winds caused a large signboard to topple onto a passing motorcycle.

The rider lost his life on the spot, while a woman and a child accompanying him sustained injuries. Rescue teams quickly shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Muzaffarabad: Over 150 tourists stranded after flood

In Muzaffarabad’s Jehlum Valley, torrential rains caused a sudden surge in the Pathiyali Mangar stream, sweeping away a road and leaving more than 150 tourists stranded.

Rescue 1122 teams have so far evacuated 50 people, including 33 tourists from Karachi.

Relief operations are continuing, with local residents also joining rescue efforts to move the remaining stranded individuals to safety.

Karachi: Rain ends, but urban woes continue

Although rain has stopped in Karachi, residents are still grappling with flooded streets, mud, and widespread waterlogging. Areas including Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Laloo Khait, and Soldier Bazaar remain severely affected, highlighting the failure of drainage infrastructure and exposing gaps in municipal preparedness.

Locals expressed frustration, saying, “Karachi, once known as the Bride of Cities, now looks like a neglected village after every rain. Government claims of development have proven hollow against the reality on the ground.”

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay clear of hazardous locations, and contact rescue helplines or local officials in case of any emergency.
