In a welcome development for inflation-hit citizens, electricity prices are likely to be reduced nationwide, including Karachi.

The Power Division has submitted a request to implement a uniform tariff structure across the country, with proposed reductions in base electricity tariffs for domestic consumers.

According to official documents, a reduction of Rs1.16 per unit is being proposed in the base tariff for household users, potentially reducing the maximum domestic rate from Rs48.84 to Rs47.69 per unit.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to hold a hearing on the request on July 1.

Proposed Tariff Reductions (monthly usage slabs):

• Lifeline consumers (0-50 units): Rs3.95/unit (unchanged)

• Lifeline (51-100 units): Rs7.74/unit (unchanged)

• Protected users (up to 100 units): Rs10.54/unit (down Rs1.15)

• Protected (101-200 units): Rs13.01/unit

• Non-Protected (1-100 units): Rs22.44/unit

• 101–200 units: Rs28.91/unit (down Rs1.16)

• 201–300 units: Rs33.10/unit (down Rs1.16)

• 301–400 units: Rs37.99/unit (down Rs1.16)

• 401–500 units: Rs40.22/unit (down Rs1.14)

• 501–600 units: Rs41.62/unit (down Rs1.16)

• 601–700 units: Rs42.76/unit (down Rs1.16)
