Tunisian teenager seeks shelter in Karachi after being abandoned by husband
Nineteen-year-old Sinda Ayari from Tunisia has sought shelter at a women’s police station in Karachi after being abandoned by her husband, Muhammad Aamir.
Sinda came from Tunis City, befriended Aamir on social media, and their relationship blossomed into love. Upon her arrival in Karachi on November 28, 2024, Aamir welcomed her at the airport, and the next day, they were married in a ceremony arranged by Aamir’s family.
Their marriage was officially registered on March 6 at the Union Council Baghdadi in Lyari. Initially, Sinda reported that their early days together were happy, but conflicts over minor issues soon escalated, leading to a divorce initiated by Aamir.
Sinda faced challenges as her 90-day visa expired on February 18, making her return impossible without a visa renewal or exit permit.
The women’s police station confirmed that Sinda has not filed any complaints of abuse against Aamir and has been provided with protective shelter. Aamir was called to the police station, where he confirmed the divorce before departing.
Authorities stated that they are in contact with immigration officials to facilitate Sinda’s return.
In-Laws’ perspective
Aamir’s family has expressed concerns about Sinda’s behavior, claiming it disrupted their lives. They stated that they had warned her before her arrival in Pakistan that they would be unable to support her financially and that local conditions would be challenging.
Despite these warnings, Sinda insisted on coming to Pakistan, assuring them she would adjust.
Reports indicate that Sinda’s behavior became increasingly problematic after marriage, leading to frequent arguments and even physical confrontations. Aamir’s parents mentioned they felt exhausted by her actions and ultimately viewed separation as the only viable solution.
However, the women’s police clarified that Sinda has not made allegations of violence or abuse against Aamir or his family. They have provided her with shelter on humanitarian grounds and are working to arrange her return through immigration channels.
Sinda’s Allegations
Sinda has made serious accusations against her ex-husband and in-laws, claiming that Aamir physically abused her and failed to provide food. She recounted how their relationship began on Facebook and eventually led to marriage.
Sinda revealed that her mother had warned her about Aamir’s family but that she ignored this advice out of infatuation.
In interviews, she stated that her mother-in-law’s constant complaints about her to Aamir further strained their relationship, resulting in severe mental and physical distress during her seven-month stay in Pakistan.
