Over 9,000 police personnel deployed in Dera Ismail Khan for Muharram security
The police in Dera Ismail Khan have deployed over 90,000 police officers and personnel to ensure peace and order during the sacred month of Muharram.
It is recognized as one of the most sensitive districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain stability and prevent any untoward incidents during religious processions and gatherings.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmad is personally overseeing the security arrangements.
The district has been divided into four security zones, each under the supervision of a Superintendent of Police (SP) to enable quick and effective responses to any emergencies.
To enhance surveillance, CCTV cameras have been installed at key locations, including procession routes, Imam Bargahs, and city entry and exit points.
Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel have also been deployed to strengthen the overall security environment.
Security checks are ongoing at all city entry and exit points, while intelligence-based operations are being conducted in sensitive areas to preempt any potential threats.
Religious scholars from various sects, business leaders, and civil society representatives have praised the police for their proactive planning and pledged full cooperation in maintaining peace and harmony during Muharram.
In a statement, DPO Ahmad affirmed the district police’s full readiness and commitment to ensuring that Muharram passes peacefully.
He noted that arrangements for food and accommodation have been made for police personnel arriving from other districts.
Senior officers will monitor all security operations throughout Muharram and address any issues on the spot.
The DPO instructed all police personnel to remain vigilant during their duties.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination with religious scholars and community leaders to prevent misunderstandings, curb provocations, and respond swiftly to any attempts at incitement, ensuring unity and peace across the district.
