Punjab imposes Section 144 to maintain security during Muharram
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from June 27 to July 6, 2025, to maintain law and order and address security concerns during Muharram.
The Punjab Home Department has decided in response to the sensitive security environment during the holy month.
Also, the Punjab Home Department has issued some regulations, which are as follows:

imposed seven specific restrictions under Section 144 to ensure security during Muharram.

complete ban on public gatherings, unauthorized religious processions, display of weapons, and distribution of inflammatory material.

only religious processions and gatherings that have been pre-approved by the authorities will be allowed.

no new or unapproved religious events will be permitted during this period.
-
banned pillion riding throughout the province as an additional security measure.
The ban on pillion riding will be specifically enforced on Muharram 9 and 10.
These restrictions will remain in effect from Muharram 1 to 10.
The Home Department has directed all district administrations and police officials to strictly enforce the restrictions. Authorities have been instructed to take immediate legal action against anyone who violates Section 144.
