11 killed, dozens injured in rain-related incidents in Sindh, Punjab
At least 11 people, including children, were killed and dozens injured in rain-related incidents after pre-monsoon rains swept across Islamabad, Punjab, and parts of Sindh.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rain through July 1.
Casualties across Punjab
In Bahawalnagar, a 4-year-old boy, Zain, was killed when the roof of a room collapsed. In Chunian, two young girls lost their lives also in roof collapse incident.
Another child died in Okara, where two others were injured under falling debris.
Two people drowned in Jhelum, and one man died from a lightning strike in Mian Channu.
In Islamabad, strong winds toppled an electric pole onto a vehicle, killing two individuals and injuring two more.
Infrastructure damage and power outages
In Multan, around 170 power feeders tripped, plunging large parts of the city into darkness.
Rising water levels were reported in rivers and streams across Muzaffarabad, raising flood concerns.
Lahore rain exposes administration’s claims
Rain in Lahore exposed glaring failures in municipal management.
A section of the Thokar Niaz Baig drain broke due to high water flow, flooding nearby residential areas with sewage.
Residents faced immense hardship as filthy water entered homes and walls of weak houses began collapsing.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and the Irrigation Department have started emergency repair work.
In Model Town, roadways were closed after rains damaged streets, forcing traffic diversions.
Sindh also hit by rains
In Hyderabad, rainfall accompanied by gusty winds cooled down the weather but caused destruction as well.
In Tandojam, a madrasa roof collapsed during heavy rain killing two children and injured more than 20 others.
Rains were also recorded in Tando Allahyar, Jamshoro, and Mithi, while Khairpur experienced intense windstorms.
