Federal cabinet approves Finance Bill for 2025-26
The federal cabinet on Thursday gave its formal approval to the Finance Bill for the fiscal year 2025–26, incorporating various amendments.
The crucial session of the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, also took decisions on key issues concerning national security, regional de-escalation, and energy policy.
During the meeting, participants were briefed on the outcomes of the recent National Security Committee session and were taken into confidence on key matters.
According to sources, the cabinet expressed satisfaction over the recent de-escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.
A unanimous resolution was passed appreciating the role of the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal in reducing regional tensions.
The cabinet also approved the agenda put forth by the Ministry of Energy.
Notably, the authority to determine petroleum levy rates was transferred to the Petroleum Division.
Further, a comprehensive briefing was given on the country’s economic and energy affairs. The cabinet held consultations and finalized several policy directions.
In principle, the cabinet also approved amendments to certain laws, though these have been referred to the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Affairs for further review.
Additionally, the cabinet resolved to form a committee regarding a specific gas-related agenda.
This committee will be responsible for presenting its recommendations to the Supreme Court.
