Karachi set for thunderstorms and rain through June 29
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a spell of thunderstorms and rain in Karachi beginning today and continuing through June 29.
Intermittent showers are expected on Friday, heavy rainfall forecast for Saturday and Sunday raises the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of the city.
According to the Met Office, this marks the beginning of the first monsoon spell, which is likely to persist in Karachi until July 2. A second monsoon phase is anticipated to impact other parts of the country starting from July 5.
Authorities have issued alerts regarding potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions on major roads due to heavy downpours. Citizens are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated on weather advisories.
As of now, Karachi’s temperature is recorded at 30 degree Celsius, though it feels closer to 37 degree Celsius due to high humidity, which currently stands at 83%. Maximum temperatures today are expected to reach 37 degree Celsius, with light winds blowing from the northeast at 6 km/h.
The Met Office has advised municipal bodies to remain on high alert, ensure proper drainage, and prepare for emergency situations.
