‘Kiswa’ of Kaaba to be replaced in sacred ceremony on Muharram 1
A revered ceremony to replace Kiswa (Ghilaf-e-Kaaba) at Masjid Al Haram is set to take place on Muharram 1, after Asr prayers, marking the beginning of the new Islamic year, as part of an annual tradition.
Widely regarded as one of Islam’s most sacred annual rituals, the event draws immense attention and respect from Muslims around the world.
All preparations for the event have been finalized, with more than 200 skilled artisans participating in the process of handling and fitting the new Kiswa.
The new cloth has been meticulously produced at the Kiswa Factory over 11 months of continuous work. It weighs 1,415 kilograms and contains 1,000 kilograms of pure silk.
Adorned with verses frrom holy Quran, the Kiswa features intricate embroidery using 120 kilograms of gold thread and 100 kilograms of silver, adding both spiritual and artistic richness to the covering.
The Kiswa is composed of four large panels and 47 medium and small sections, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship behind its creation.
Beyond its religious significance, the ceremony symbolizes unity and devotion, sending a powerful spiritual message to Muslims around the world.
