The prime suspect in the murder of 17-year-old TikToker Sana Yousaf has confessed to the crime on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Umar Hayat, the accused, recorded his confessional statement under Section 164 before Magistrate Saad Nazir in Islamabad.

In his statement, he admitted that he killed Sana Yousaf at her residence after she refused to meet him.

According to the confession, Umar claimed he had brought a gift for Sana on her birthday, which she declined to accept.

He said that after being invited again on June 2 but not being able to meet her, he was overcome with rage.

“She asked me to leave the first time I went to meet her. The second time she didn’t show up despite calling me. I was deeply hurt,” he told the magistrate.

Driven by anger, Umar said he went to Sana’s home in Islamabad on June 3 and shot her dead.

The accused, a resident of Faisalabad, was arrested shortly after the incident. The Islamabad police, led by IG Ali Nasir Rizvi, had earlier stated that the killing was linked to Sana’s refusal to continue a friendship.

Sana Yousaf was a rising social media star with nearly 800,000 followers on TikTok and around 500,000 on Instagram.

Her murder sparked outrage on social media and renewed calls for stronger protections for women in digital spaces.

A local court recently extended the suspect’s physical remand by three more days as investigations continue.
