Monsoon rains to lash cities across Pakistan from June 25: PMD
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted widespread monsoon rains across the country, starting from June 25, which are expected to continue until July 2.
During this period, various regions will experience thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds.
According to the PMD, heavy rainfall is expected in Dir, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, and Kohistan.
From June 25 to 28, parts of Balochistan including Zhob, Barkhan, Quetta, Mastung, and Ziarat, are also likely to receive rain.
Rainfall is also predicted in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from June 25 to 28.
The department has issued a warning of possible landslides in mountainous areas from June 26 to 28 and has advised local residents and tourists to exercise caution.
The PMD has alerted local administrations and relevant authorities about the risk of urban flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas, urging them to stay prepared for any emergencies.
Hot and humid weather to persist in most parts of country
Despite the expected rainfall, most regions will continue to experience hot and humid weather.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the heat will persist, although rain is likely in Dir, Swat, Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.
In Islamabad, early morning rainfall brought some relief from the heat, and the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of further rain. A rain alert has also been issued for Rawalpindi’s Nullah Lai.
In Punjab and Sindh, the weather is likely to remain intensely hot and humid.
However, rain is expected in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal.
Southern Punjab cities including Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Dera Ghazi Khan may experience dust storms.
Most parts of Balochistan will also remain under the grip of heat with the possibility of dust-laden winds.
In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms are likely, which may bring a slight drop in temperature.
