PM Shehbaz Sharif expected to visit China in August
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to visit China in August for high-level consultations aimed at expanding economic ties between the two countries.
In preparation for the visit, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has initiated discussions with relevant Pakistani ministries to finalise the economic agenda for the prime minister’s trip.
On Tuesday, Ambassador Jiang and his delegation held a detailed meeting with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan to discuss bilateral economic cooperation.
The ambassador was accompanied by senior embassy officials, including Minister Counselors Yang Guangyuan and Xu Hangtian, Second Secretary Wang Cun, Third Secretary Zhang Datuo, Attaché Liu Lezhen, Yang Dapeng, and Wang Jingjiu.
During the meeting, Ambassador Jiang praised government’s economic reforms and policy measures.
He highlighted the country’s economic recovery, citing positive developments such as GDP growth, declining inflation, and increased investor confidence.
He also commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership in guiding Pakistan towards economic stability and sustainable development.
China reiterated its full support for Pakistan’s efforts to access Chinese markets but emphasized that Pakistan needs to strengthen its industrial base instead of relying heavily on exporting raw materials.
The commerce ministry and other relevant departments have ample time to prepare a comprehensive agenda for the prime minister’s discussions with top Chinese officials.
Both sides engaged in a constructive dialogue focused on enhancing bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
They reviewed the current economic relationship and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration, especially in emerging sectors.
The officials reaffirmed their commitment to promoting stronger economic integration, sustainable trade practices, and facilitating the exchange of goods, services, and expertise.
They agreed to maintain close coordination and regular communication at all levels to ensure the effective implementation of existing initiatives and to identify new areas for cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a shared vision to promote inclusive growth, improve regional connectivity, and achieve long-term prosperity for both nations.
