Punjab finalises budget with estimated outlay of Rs6.5 trillion

Rs1202 billion likely to be allocated for development schemes

The Punjab government has finalised preparations for the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, with the total estimated outlay set at Rs6.5 trillion.

According to sources in the Finance Department, the budget prioritises development and public welfare initiatives.

The Punjab government is expected to receive Rs4.0768 trillion from the divisible pool revenues.

The province’s total revenue collection has been estimated at Rs1,050 billion, of which Rs510 billion is projected to come from provincial taxes and Rs540 billion from non-tax sources.

The remaining amount will be generated through straight transfers, capital receipts, and other financial instruments.

The Planning and Development Department has prepared the final draft of the budget, which proposes an allocation of Rs1,202 billion for development schemes across the province.

The development budget envisages allocations across various sectors, including Rs145 billion for urban development, Rs142 billion for local governments, Rs90 billion for health and population welfare, Rs120 billion for the road sector and Rs80 billion for the agriculture sector,

In addition, the education sector will receive significant allocations, with Rs100 billion earmarked for school education and Rs25 billion for higher education.

Other allocations include Rs12 billion for industries, Rs5 billion for forestry and livestock, and Rs124.73 billion for other development projects.

The Punjab government has stated that the upcoming budget will focus on public relief, development initiatives, provision of basic services, and employment opportunities.
