A man who fled from prison earlier this month during a massive jailbreak in Malir Karachi has been found dead in another part of the city inside his home.

A hanging body discovered in a house in Karachi’s Mauripur area. Police have concluded their investigation, identifying the deceased as Raza, a fugitive prisoner from Malir Jail. Prior to his death, Raza recorded a video confession.

Aaj News has obtained a video statement made by Raza before his suicide. In the video, he claimed his innocence and recounted the chaotic conditions during the escape. “I request that I be released; I am innocent,” he stated, admitting that he fled along with other inmates amid gunfire and confusion within the jail.

Raza described the escape scene, saying, “everyone was climbing over each other to escape; there was gunfire inside the jail.” He also mentioned feeling tremors similar to an earthquake, which drove him to flee.

He noted that upon escaping, the main road was directly in front of them and revealed that he sustained injuries during the escape, walking for a long time afterward.

Raza was arrested in a drug case at the Eidgah Police Station and subsequently sent to Malir Jail, where a case against him was filed on March 30, 2022. He was among the prisoners who escaped from the jail just days before his body was discovered.
