Second suspect arrested in viral Karachi assault case
In recent incident of violent assault on a young man in Karachi’s Defence area, Khayaban-e-Ittehad, police have arrested another suspect, Owais Hashmi, in connection with the case. He was identified through the video footage actively assaulting the victim.
The main accused, Salman Farooqi, along with his security guard and driver, who was also taken into custody. Salman Farooqi reportedly brutally attacked the young man after the victim’s motorcycle accidentally collided with Farooqi’s car.
A case against the accused has been registered at the Gizri police station.
The viral videos reveal heartbreaking scenes of the victim’s sisters pleading for mercy from Salman Farooqi, even folding their hands in supplication, but their appeals were met with cold indifference.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 8pm on Sunday when a minor collision between the youth’s motorcycle and a car belonging to a local influential figure escalated. The accused had initially claimed to be a government employee.
Following the viral circulation of the videos, police launched raids on Salman Farooqi’s office and residence, revealing he is the CEO of Bionic Films, not a government official as claimed. During these operations, his security guard and driver were arrested, and his car was seized.
Gizri police station SHO Farooq Sanjrani confirmed that four individuals have been detained and one vehicle confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjari took notice of the case and ordered strict action against all involved.
The FIR, filed on the complaint of eyewitness Muhammad Aslam, includes charges of assault, threats, and other offenses. Aslam, a sales manager at a mobile company, said he was present at Ittehad Commercial to recover dues when the incident occurred.
According to Aslam, the car driver, armed and accompanied by a security guard, trapped the motorcyclist in the vehicle and subjected him to physical abuse and threats. The victim’s female companion was seen pleading for mercy in the videos.

DIG South stated that initial investigations confirmed the accused is not a government employee and emphasized ongoing efforts to bring all involved to justice.
Authorities are maintaining regular contact with the victim’s family to gather further details.
Police officials stressed the seriousness of the case, assuring the public that no influential person will be allowed to escape legal accountability and that full justice will be provided to the victim.
SSP South reiterated that Salman Farooqi and his security guard unlawfully took the law into their own hands, a behavior that will not be tolerated by law enforcement.
