Govt maintains petrol price despite earlier reports of Rs7 per litre cut
The Ministry of Finance has announced that the price of petrol will remain unchanged at Rs252.63 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs2 to Rs254.64 per litre.
In its latest notification, the Finance Ministry confirmed the new prices, which come into effect for the second half of May. Petrol will continue to sell at Rs252.63 per litre, offering no relief despite earlier reports of a potential Rs7 cut.
High-speed diesel, which is widely used in transport and agriculture sectors, saw a minor reduction. Its new price stands at Rs254.64 per litre, down from the previous rate.
Kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs5.04 per litre, while light diesel has seen a cut of Rs4.68 per litre.
The notification was delayed until 1am, and the new prices took effect immediately.
Consumers expressed disappointment over the unchanged petrol price, especially as many had expected a significant cut due to declining international oil prices.
