CM Punjab approves wheat support price for 600,000 farmers
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the disbursement of Rs5,000 per acre under the wheat support price programme for 600,000 farmers through the Kisan Card. Additionally, those not possessing the Kisan Card will also receive the same subsidy amount per acre.
The decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, where the solarisation of agricultural tube wells and implementation strategies for the wheat support programme were discussed. The meeting also explored proposals to include land contractors, along with landowners, in the subsidy initiative.
CM Maryam was briefed that 50% of the received applications under the wheat support programme have already been verified. She approved that even farmers without Kisan Cards would be eligible for Rs5,000 per acre in support.
The chief minister noted that farmers will receive billions more in subsidies for the upcoming crop cycle. She revealed that farmers have already utilised Rs36 billion for agricultural inputs, and 60% of the loans disbursed through the Kisan Card have been repaid. A total of Rs22 billion has been returned by farmers who availed loans via the Kisan Card.
