Gohar responds positively to PM Shehbaz call for national unity
A rare moment of political reconciliation emerged in the National Assembly on Wednesday, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a formal offer of dialogue to the opposition and called for national unity—a gesture that was welcomed by PTI’s parliamentary leader, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
The exchange of goodwill has sparked hope for a potential reduction in the country’s prolonged political tensions and the beginning of meaningful talks.
Addressing the House, PM Shehbaz emphasised that in the face of national challenges, “Today, we must show the world that we are united.” He offered to personally visit the opposition leader’s chamber to initiate dialogue. “This is not the time for blame games but for national solidarity,” he added, urging Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to join hands for the greater national interest.
Responding positively, Barrister Gohar welcomed the invitation and declared support for national reconciliation. “We welcome the call for dialogue. Pakistan is our red line—there can be no compromise on that,” he stated.

Condemning India’s aggressive posture, Gohar said, “India cannot divide Pakistan with its Hindutva-driven agenda. The nation is united, and downing five Indian jets proves our readiness to respond to any aggression.” He reminded the assembly that former PM Imran Khan had long warned that Pakistan would retaliate decisively against any Indian provocation.
Gohar criticised India’s silence over the Jaffer Express attack and noted that Pakistan continues to bear the funerals of martyrs. “We will not remain silent anymore. Reconciliation requires effort from all sides—‘one hand alone cannot clap’,” he said, calling for a collective commitment to unity.
Appreciating the prime minister’s offer for a chamber-level meeting, Gohar stressed that dialogue must go beyond words. “This process requires practical steps. The release of Imran Khan and other political prisoners will be the first real gesture toward national reconciliation,” he asserted.
He also urged the National Assembly Speaker to play an active role in ensuring the dialogue process moves forward with sincerity.
The latest development has raised cautious optimism across political circles, with observers noting that both sides now have a rare opportunity to de-escalate hostilities and focus on national cohesion.
