Global concerns mount over escalating Pakistan-India tensions
As tensions rise between Pakistan and India, international leaders are voicing their concerns and urging restraint.
The United Arab Emirates, the United Nations, Turkey, and the United States have all called for dialogue and de-escalation in the region.The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has expressed serious worries about the escalating conflict, urging both nations to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could threaten regional and global peace.
In a statement from the Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he underscored the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in peacefully resolving conflicts and reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster international peace and stability.
Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has pointed to India as the instigator of the recent tensions, labeling its attacks on Pakistan as concerning and a threat to peace. He called for both countries to demonstrate restraint and engage in dialogue to restore stability in the region.
Turkey has also expressed solidarity with Pakistan. On Wednesday, Turkish Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, reaffirming Turkey’s strong support for Pakistan in light of India’s unprovoked attacks. Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan condemned Indian aggression, emphasizing Turkey’s unwavering support amid growing security concerns.
In a related development, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, directed Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed to inform senior UN officials about India’s aggressive actions. Pakistan condemned India’s missile strikes on various areas, including Azad Kashmir, as clear violations of international law and its sovereignty. The statement highlighted Pakistan’s right to respond appropriately at any time under its self-defense policy, as outlined in Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The United States has also weighed in on the situation, expressing concern over the escalating tensions. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has engaged with national security advisors from both countries, urging them to keep lines of communication open and avoid further escalation. He emphasized the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Adding to the international responses, China has expressed regret over India’s military operation this morning and voiced concern about the ongoing situation. A Chinese spokesperson emphasized that India and Pakistan are neighbors and that both are also neighboring countries to China.
China opposes all forms of terrorism and urges both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, remaining calm, exercising restraint, and refraining from actions that could further complicate the situation.
In a related statement, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi condemned the terrorist act that occurred in Kashmir on April 22.
He expressed strong concern that the situation could lead to retaliatory exchanges and escalate into a full-scale military conflict. Hayashi urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and stabilize the situation through dialogue for the peace and stability of South Asia.
