PM rejects Indian allegations in call with UN chief, demands for impartial probe
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, during which he firmly rejected India’s accusations against Pakistan and reiterated Islamabad’s demand for an impartial and transparent investigation into the recent Pahalgam incident.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders focused on the evolving situation in South Asia. Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasised that Pakistan has made significant sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism and strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Rejecting Indian attempts to link Pakistan with the Pahalgam incident, the Prime Minister said such baseless allegations were unacceptable. He expressed grave concern over India’s documented state-sponsored terrorism in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and its attempts to delegitimise the Kashmiri freedom struggle.
Highlighting India’s actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, the Prime Minister termed New Delhi’s illegal and irresponsible behaviour unacceptable, stating that the waters governed by the treaty are a lifeline for over 240 million people in Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz stressed that any Indian misadventure would be met with a resolute response and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He urged the UN Secretary-General to advise India to act responsibly and exercise restraint. Emphasising that the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the root cause of instability in South Asia, the Prime Minister called on Guterres to play an active role in securing a just resolution in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to international peace and security as a responsible member of the international community and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Shehbaz Sharif assured continued cooperation with the UN’s efforts for regional stability.
In response, Secretary-General António Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace in South Asia and stressed that the world cannot afford further escalation in the region during these sensitive times.
