Heavy rain, thuderstorm to hit Punjab, PDMA issues alert

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for Punjab, warning of dust storms, heavy winds, and rain across most districts between April 30 and May 4.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, thunderstorm activity is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala. Similar weather conditions, including gusty winds and rainfall, are also likely in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali.

From May 2 to 4, southern Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar, may experience windstorms, rain, and isolated thunderstorms.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, alerts have been issued to all district administrations. Relevant departments — including School Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock — have also been placed on high alert.

Additionally, departments such as Information, WASA, Punjab Police, and Civil Defence have been directed to remain vigilant. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces, and seek shelter to protect themselves from lightning.

The PDMA urged the public to call the emergency helpline 1129 in case of any weather-related emergencies.
