An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday approved a six-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed and handed her over to police for further investigation.

Sanam was presented before the court in connection with a case registered at Islampura Police Station related to the May 9 riots. Police requested her physical remand, which was granted by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul after hearing arguments from both sides.

Sanam Javed’s counsel had requested her release, arguing against the remand. However, the court ruled in favour of the prosecution and directed the police to proceed with the investigation.

Sanam and her husband were arrested a day earlier from Lahore’s Green Town area. According to police, the two were wanted in connection with arson and vandalism cases stemming from the violent protests that erupted following PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9.
