Seema Haider’s marriage to Indian youth raises deportation concerns
Seema Haider, who left Pakistan in 2023 to marry Indian citizen Sachin Meena, is now grappling with anxiety about her future in India. Following the Indian government’s recent decision to suspend visa services for Pakistani nationals after the Pahalgam attack, Seema is at risk of deportation.
Originally from Sindh, Pakistan, Seema was previously married but entered India illegally via Nepal to be with Sachin. She brought her four children along with her.
In a viral video, Seema appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying, “I was a daughter of Pakistan, and now I am a daughter-in-law of India. Please allow me to stay here. I do not want to go back to Pakistan.”
Seema claims to have converted to Hinduism after her marriage.
Her lawyer, A.P. Singh, expressed optimism that she would be permitted to remain in India, arguing that she is no longer a Pakistani citizen. He stated, “Seema has married Sachin Meena, a resident of Greater Noida, and they recently welcomed a daughter named ‘Bharati Meena.’ Therefore, her citizenship is now linked to her Indian husband, and the government’s visa suspension decision should not apply to her.”
It is important to note that during a security committee meeting led by Prime Minister Modi after the Pahalgam attack, several retaliatory measures were enacted, including the suspension of visa services for Pakistani citizens.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that all visas issued to Pakistani nationals would be canceled as of April 27, with only medical visas remaining valid until April 29. All Pakistani nationals currently in India have been instructed to leave before their visas expire.

Seema traveled from Karachi to India in May 2023. In July, she was arrested by Indian authorities while living with Sachin Meena in the Rabpura area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
