Japan handovers 65 Books to NED University Under “Read Japan Project”
In a gesture aimed at strengthening cultural and academic ties between Japan and Pakistan, the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi, in collaboration with the Tokyo Foundation, held a book donation ceremony at NED University of Engineering and Technology on Thursday.
Under the “READ JAPAN PROJECT,” a total of 65 books were handed over to the university’s Main Campus. The collection, carefully selected by the Tokyo Foundation, includes works on Japanese history, politics, literature, and philosophy, offering students and scholars a valuable gateway into understanding Japan’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage.
The books were officially presented by the Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Mr. Masaru. During the ceremony, Mr. Hattori emphasised the role of academic and cultural exchange in fostering deeper ties between the two nations, expressing hope that the books would become a lasting academic resource for students, researchers, and faculty members.
Vice Chancellor of NED University, Dr. Noman Ahmed, expressed gratitude to the Tokyo Foundation for their generous contribution, noting that the donation would help broaden students’ knowledge and contribute to stronger Japan-Pakistan relations. Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Tufail remarked that the books would allow readers to gain deeper insights into Japan’s development, societal systems, and core values.

“This donation is not just a gift of knowledge—it is a symbol of friendship and understanding between our two countries,” said Dr. Tufail.
The “READ JAPAN PROJECT” is part of the Tokyo Foundation’s broader initiative to promote cultural diplomacy and global understanding through the dissemination of high-quality Japanese literature and academic works to universities around the world.
The event concluded with a note of appreciation from NED University’s representatives, who lauded the initiative as a meaningful contribution to their academic resources and a significant step towards encouraging Japanese studies in Pakistan.
