A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is mandated for the position of Chairman, an intermediate (FA) for Vice Chairman, and a Matriculation certificate for Councilors.
Furthermore, the proposed Punjab Local Government Act 2025 will abolish district councils and significantly expand the powers of the bureaucracy.
Under this new system, the authority of local representatives will be confined to the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA).
