Protests and sit-ins against the proposed extraction of the new canal project from the Indus River have intensified throughout Sindh.

Lawyers have entered the sixth day of their sit-in at the Baburlo bypass near Khairpur, while demonstrators in various cities have blocked multiple roads.

Protesters from Usta Muhammad have arrived at Baburlo Bypass, and in Qambar Shahdadkot, angry individuals have set tires on fire on the M-8 motorway.

The National Highway in Moro and the Noorpur Thal Bypass have also experienced significant disruptions, leading to severe traffic congestion.

Traders trapped in vehicles are facing considerable challenges, as vegetables, fruits, and medicines loaded in their vehicles begin to spoil. Livestock are also suffering from hunger and thirst due to the ongoing protests.

Demonstrators assert that the decision to extract new canals constitutes a theft of Sindh’s water resources and must be rejected. Their rallying cry emphasizes that the “decision to extract new canals is unacceptable.”

In response to the situation, local hotel owners have seized the opportunity to double the prices of food and water.

Furthermore, reports of criminal activity have surfaced, with travelers and traders alleging they have been robbed.

The ongoing sit-ins and road blockages have severely disrupted inter-provincial trade, further heightening public unrest across the region.
