New petition filed against PECA Act amendments in IHC
A new constitutional petition challenging amendments to the PECA Act has been filed in the Islamabad High Court by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Constitution Group).
The court has ordered that this petition be merged with an existing case already under consideration.
During the initial hearing, Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas issued notices to the involved parties, requesting their responses.
The court has directed its staff to schedule this new petition for the next hearing date alongside the main case.
It is important to note that other petitions opposing the proposed amendments to the PECA Act, submitted by the PFUJ, the Anchors Association, and the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association, are also currently being reviewed by the court.

The petitioners contend that the revised PECA Act infringes on freedom of expression and media autonomy, contradicting the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
The court has postponed the hearing, asking all parties to provide written responses for the next session and indicating that the issue will be discussed further in conjunction with the main case.
