Maryam Nawaz approves Rs15 billion wheat support fund, announces relief for Punjab’s farmers
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a Rs15 billion wheat support fund to provide direct financial relief to wheat farmers through the Kisan Card.
Announcing a major relief package for over 550,000 wheat growers, Maryam Nawaz said, “Farmers are our brothers, and we stand with them at all times.”
Additional relief measures include exemption from abiana (water charges) and fixed agricultural taxes, along with four months of free storage to protect wheat from weather-related damage.
The chief minister also introduced an electronic warehouse receipt system, under which farmers storing wheat will receive digital receipts that can be used to secure up to 70% loans from banks within 24 hours.

She further stated that the Punjab government would coordinate with the federal government to facilitate wheat and wheat-product exports. Moreover, restrictions on the movement of wheat and flour across provincial and district borders have been lifted.
Maryam Nawaz added that the private sector would be supported in restoring and constructing wheat storage and warehouses through financing from the Bank of Punjab. The provincial government will cover Rs5 billion in markup costs.
She assured farmers that those who cultivate wheat will be fully compensated: “No farmer will suffer a loss.”
