Pakistan Navy commissions PNS Yamama, enhancing maritime defense capabilities
In a prestigious ceremony held at Jinnah Naval Base, Ormara, the Pakistan Navy formally inducted its fourth Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), PNS Yamama, into the naval fleet. Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
According to a Navy spokesperson, PNS Yamama is a state-of-the-art, multi-role warship built at Damen Shipyard in Romania. It is equipped with advanced stealth features, a cutting-edge command and control system, and highly effective weapons and sensors, enabling it to operate efficiently in a wide range of threat environments.
This vessel is the fourth unit in its series and will significantly enhance the Pakistan Navy’s maritime defense capabilities, the security of sea lines of communication, and its ability to maintain order at sea.
The induction of PNS Yamama marks a substantial addition to the Navy’s growing capabilities in Pakistan’s western maritime frontier. It will support effective naval operations, promote maritime security, and contribute to regional peace and stability.

Additionally, the vessel will play a vital role in securing strategic national assets, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other critical maritime infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering, Admiral Naveed Ashraf emphasized the importance of a strong and modern naval force in light of the Indian Ocean’s complex geo-strategic landscape and the evolving conventional and non-conventional threats.
He reaffirmed that the induction of PNS Yamama strengthens the Navy’s resolve to safeguard Pakistan’s maritime boundaries and uphold peace and stability in international waters.
Admiral Ashraf also praised the professionalism of Damen Shipyard Galati and the teams involved in the project, calling the ship a testament to the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Romania.
