Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have filed petitions in the Islamabad High Court requesting an early hearing of their appeals in the £190 million case.

The petitions were submitted by their legal counsel, Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, who urged the court to expedite the hearing process. The petitioners emphasize that no progress was made during the previous hearing, which necessitates immediate judicial attention.

The petitioners argue that Imran Khan, being a former Prime Minister, is currently in custody due to what they claim is political victimization.

The petitions highlight that the conviction was handed down on January 17, yet no substantive hearing has taken place since then. This delay, they argue, poses a threat to justice and undermines the legal principle that justice delayed is justice denied.

They further contend that a prompt hearing is essential to ensure a fair trial process, noting that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done. According to the petitions, early hearings help establish transparency and maintain public confidence in the judicial system.

The Islamabad High Court has assigned diary number 7115/24 to Imran Khan’s petition and 7116/24 to Bushra Bibi’s petition. The court is expected to take up the matter for consideration in the coming days.
