Libya boat tragedy: Most-wanted trafficker, accomplice arrested

Both suspects were apprehended from Sargodha and Sialkot

Authorities have arrested two suspects involved in the 2023 Libya boat tragedy, including a most-wanted human trafficker listed in the FIA’s Red Book.

According to an FIA spokesperson, Faisalabad Zone conducted a major operation, capturing the suspects identified as Attaullah and Saeed Usman. The arrests took place in Sargodha and Sialkot.

Attaullah, a key suspect in the Libya boat disaster, was involved in smuggling people to Europe via sea routes.

He had taken Rs4.5 million from two individuals, promising them safe passage to Italy.

However, during the journey, their boat met with a fatal accident, resulting in the death of at least one of the trafficked individuals. His name was already listed in the FIA’s Red Book of most-wanted human traffickers.

The second suspect, Saeed Usman, allegedly swindled Rs2.6 million from another citizen under the pretense of sending him to Italy. He first sent the individual to Libya, where he has since gone missing.

The FIA spokesperson revealed that two other suspects had already been arrested in the same case. The latest arrests mark another step in the ongoing investigation.
