Pakistan has transferred a Daesh terrorist to the United States in accordance with United Nations resolutions, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan confirmed.

In a high-level discussion, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and US National Security Adviser deliberated on the retrieval of American weapons left in Afghanistan.

Dar emphasised that the removal of these arms would contribute to regional stability.

Ishaq Dar’s diplomatic engagements

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has departed for Saudi Arabia to attend the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.

The session will focus on Israel’s aggression against Palestinians and forced displacements in Gaza.

Khan also revealed that Dar received a call from the US National Security Adviser discussing the American weapons left in Afghanistan.

Additionally, he held an important conversation with Azerbaijan’s foreign minister.

The latest round of Pakistan-Italy bilateral political consultations took place in Rome, focusing on strengthening diplomatic ties and regional affairs.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to counterterrorism, Khan highlighted the success of security operations against terrorist elements.

He confirmed that Pakistan cooperated with the US in taking action against terrorist operative Sharifullah, underscoring the strong bilateral counterterrorism relationship.

Khan stated that Afghanistan continues to serve as a safe haven for terrorist groups, with abandoned US weapons being used against Pakistan.

He assured that security and intelligence cooperation between the US and Pakistan remains intact.

Torkham border closure

The Foreign Office clarified that Pakistan did not unilaterally close the Torkham border.

The issue arose when Afghanistan’s interim government attempted to construct structures within Pakistan’s territory.

Khan acknowledged that the Torkham border dispute remains unresolved but assured that Pakistan is committed to resolving it through peaceful negotiations. He urged Afghanistan’s interim government to abandon violence and work toward peace.

Indian claim on Kashmir rejected

Pakistan rejected the Indian external affairs minister’s remarks that the Kashmir dispute would be resolved once Islamabad returned the “stolen part” of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).**

During the weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that Jammu and Kashmir is recognised as an internationally disputed territory.

He added that Kashmir’s “final status to be resolved in line with applicable United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.”

The FO spokesperson stated that India has no legal or moral basis to make false claims over the territories of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“India’s prevarication cannot change this reality,” the FO spokesperson said.

In response to a question about relations with Afghanistan, he firmly denied any reports of annexing the Wakhan Corridor, emphasizing that it is part of Afghanistan.

However, he called on the Afghan government to take action against terrorist groups that find safe havens there.

Khan also talked about Bangladesh saying Bangladesh is an important country for Pakistan and we aspire to have very strong, vibrant and good relations with it.

“India must realise that a peaceful settlement of the IIOJK dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people is imperative for a lasting peace in South Asia.”
