US president praises Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, PM Shehbaz welcomes statement
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s acknowledgment of Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism efforts in Afghanistan, calling it a commendable recognition.
During his address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, President Trump referred to the 2021 US withdrawal from Afghanistan as a “disastrous and incompetent decision.”
He described the suicide bombing at Kabul airport, which claimed the lives of 13 US soldiers, as “the most shameful moment in American history.”
Announcing a major development, President Trump said, “I am proud to declare that my administration has captured the mastermind behind this horrific attack. He is now being brought to the US to face the swift justice of America.”
The US president expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government for its assistance in apprehending the “monster” responsible for the attack.
Following Trump’s remarks, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism.
He highlighted Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in this fight, stating that the country remains determined to combat all forms of terrorism.
PM Shehbaz noted that over 80,000 brave Pakistani soldiers and civilians have laid down their lives in the struggle against terrorism, yet the nation’s resolve remains steadfast.
He further emphasised Pakistan’s ongoing cooperation with the US to ensure regional peace and stability, stressing that both nations share common goals in eliminating terrorism and fostering security in the region.
