The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), the National University of Technology (NUTECH), and Comsats University are set to establish their campuses in Karachi.

Federal Minister for Education, Science and Technology Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has approved the initiative, according to a press release.

The plan includes a temporary campus for Comsats University on Hub Road, with a Rs4.6 billion PC-1 already submitted for the development of a dedicated campus. No additional details were provided regarding the establishment of NUST and NUTECH campuses in the statement.

The Islamabad-based university operates six campuses across Pakistan in addition to its main campus in the federal capital.

Earlier this year, Siddiqui announced that the National College of Arts and the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD) would also be opening campuses in Karachi, with the PIFD’s Karachi chapter inaugurated in November.

The education minister has also urged for the “prompt” appointment of a permanent rector for Comsats University Islamabad to ensure efficient operations. The university has been facing administrative challenges since it has been without a regular rector since July 2023, when Dr. Mohammad Afzal stepped down.
