Vawda proposes no local selling, buying of port lands
There would be no local selling and buying of port lands, Faisal Vawda, the Senate Committee on Maritime Affairs chairman, has said.
“More details will come out related to the Karachi Port Land,” he said while appearing on Rubaroo, which was aired on Aaj News on Saturday.
Earlier this week, the Senate committee chairman ordered the cancellation of all land allotments in the Port Qasim area following revelations about a controversial deal that involved the sale of 500 acres of land at significantly undervalued prices.
He estimated that Port Qasim has incurred losses ranging from Rs40 to Rs60 billion due to such “questionable transactions.” He revealed that land valued at Rs40 million per acre was sold for just Rs1 million per acre, resulting in a staggering loss to the national treasury. The particular deal also included the separate sale of 200 acres, contributing to an overall loss of Rs60 billion.
Vawda reiterated that it was “beyond” the domain of Maritime Affairs Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh. When asked, he claimed that businessmen, along with police, were involved in the purchase of land.
“Such deals will be reversed and they will go in court,” he said, “a clean property will be on one side, litigation, and encroached on another side. All these files, I have said give it to the prime minister and present it in the Special Investment Facilitation Council.”
The independent senator added that the 6,000-acre land next to the PNS would be sold internationally. “It is my proposal to construct a seven-star hotel. You have no idea the maritime ministry can end your loan.”
He was of the view that the recent statements by the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan against each other were not unusual.
In response to a question about the dumper issues in the country, the independent senator stated that the issue cannot be resolved by burning such vehicles.
“It will be resolved after conducting scrutiny of drivers for a licence. The dumper has a momentum that its break cannot be applied. You should lock all these vehicles at 40kph and lock buses’ speed on highways at 80kph. When you lock it there will not be over-speeding. Relatively, accidents will be down by 75%.”
Vawda added that he “would not be surprised” to see if the PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, were tried in the military court for the May 9 events.

He claimed that martial law was going to be imposed before General Asim Munir took over as the new chief of the army staff. “Martial law was in the army chief’s plate. If he had taken revenge, he had imposed martial law in the country,” the independent senator said. “Attack on Imran Khan was an episode of martial law planning.”
He claimed that the country would have “more good news in the next 30 to 45 days” and “such developments have never happened in the 50 years of the country.”
Vawda alleged that a forward bloc was forming within PTI and the former ruling party has disowned Imran Khan’s letters to the army chief.
