Hyderabad police have made significant progress in solving the murder of renowned Sindhi poet Dr Akash Ansari.

Initial claims that he died in a house fire have been proven false. Investigations have revealed that his death was not an accident but a homicide.

Dr Abdul Hameed, the Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) at Civil Hospital Hyderabad, confirmed that Akash Ansari’s body had multiple stab wounds from a sharp-edged weapon. Most of his body was also burned.

Sindh’s Minister for Education, Sardar Shah, has also verified that the poet had knife wounds on his body.

Police have arrested the poet’s adopted son, Latif Akash, and his driver from Badin on charges of murder.

Initially, Latif Akash had claimed that his father died in a house fire in Hyderabad’s Citizen Colony. However, contradictions in his statements during the investigation led to his arrest.

Dr Akash Ansari was laid to rest last night in his hometown, Badin. A large number of people, including provincial ministers, poets, writers, and individuals from various fields, attended his funeral.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are ongoing and that more evidence is expected to surface soon.

In a related development, it has been revealed that an FIR was previously filed against Latif Akash. On July 24, 2024, Akash Ansari had lodged a theft complaint, accusing Latif of attempting to steal a substantial amount from his house.

However, the matter was later resolved through reconciliation. The Hyderabad FIR had reported an attempted theft of over Rs3.8 million.
